World diabetes day
Nov 14, 2019

Diabetes mellitus (commonly known as diabetes) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels. Over time, it can lead to serious complications affecting the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves.
It is considered one of the leading causes of heart attacks, strokes, blindness, amputations, and kidney damage. World Diabetes Day is observed on November 14th.
Types of diabetes
The most common form is type 2 diabetes, which primarily affects adults. It develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough of it.
Due to its increasing prevalence, the World Health Organization has set a goal to halt the rise of diabetes and obesity by 2025.
Prevention and management of diabetes
Effective diabetes management includes:
- Promoting healthy lifestyle habits
- Engaging in regular physical activity and maintaining a balanced diet
- Early screening for timely disease detection
