Orthopedics

Orthopedics is a branch of medicine that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions and injuries affecting the musculoskeletal system — bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Issues such as joint pain, degenerative changes, sports injuries, and other orthopedic conditions can significantly impact quality of life. Timely diagnosis and proper treatment are essential for successful recovery and improved mobility.

Specialist consultations

Our orthopedic specialists use the latest diagnostic techniques, including ultrasound imaging of joints and muscles, to accurately identify the cause of your condition and create an optimal treatment plan. In addition to diagnostics, we provide evaluation and ongoing management of various orthopedic conditions, from acute injuries to chronic degenerative diseases.

Therapeutic procedures

Depending on the diagnosis and the patient's needs, Milmedika clinics offer a variety of treatment methods, including:

  • Intra-articular injections and local medication infiltrations – Direct application of therapeutic substances into the joint to reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Joint fluid removal (arthrocentesis) – A procedure used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
  • Orthopedic repositioning of bones or joints – Restoring bones or joints to their correct position after an injury.
  • Cast immobilization and other stabilization methods – Providing support and protection during the healing process.
  • Fracture treatment, both surgical and non-surgical – Different treatment approaches depending on the type and severity of the fracture.
  • Sports injury treatment – Customized recovery and rehabilitation programs for both recreational and professional athletes.
  • Ortokine therapy – An advanced treatment for arthritis and degenerative joint diseases using autologous enriched serum, which harnesses the body’s natural mechanisms to regenerate cartilage and reduce inflammation.

Various types of injections and infusion therapy

To relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue regeneration, we offer several types of injections:

  • Intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous injections
  • Intra-articular injections (direct therapy application into the joint)
  • Infusion therapies to support regeneration and accelerate recovery
  • Local medication infiltrations (nerve blocks) for pain and inflammation relief

Consultations and surgical evaluations

Milmedika clinics provide expert consultations and evaluations for various orthopedic surgeries, including:

  • Joint replacement surgery (hip, knee, shoulder) – A procedure performed in cases of severe joint degeneration, replacing the damaged joint with an implant to restore mobility and relieve pain.
  • Arthroscopy and arthroscopic procedures, such as meniscectomy and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction – Minimally invasive techniques performed through small incisions using a camera and specialized instruments, allowing precise treatment with a faster recovery time.
  • Surgical treatment of Achilles tendon injuries and conditions – Following the latest protocols for optimal healing and functional recovery, whether for partial damage or complete ruptures.
  • Correction of bunions, metatarsalgia, and tarsal tunnel syndrome – Surgical procedures to address foot deformities and compressive neuropathies, improving function and reducing pain.

Experience and expertise

Orthopedic care at Milmedika clinics is led by a team of experienced specialists dedicated to providing comprehensive medical care. A key part of our expertise comes from our collaboration with Dr. Mladen Miškulin, one of the leading orthopedic surgeons and trauma specialists in the region. Dr. Miškulin brings years of experience gained at prestigious clinics in Italy and Croatia.

Dr. Mladen Miškulin, specialist in orthopedics and traumatology

Dr. Miškulin is a PhD and an associate professor at the universities of Split and Dubrovnik. Since 2017, he has been the head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. Throughout his career, he has introduced numerous innovative surgical techniques and, in 2002, performed the first cartilage transplant in Croatia, laying the foundation for modern approaches to treating degenerative joint diseases. As a longtime head of orthopedic departments and co-founder of a specialized hospital, he continuously works on advancing surgical techniques and training new generations of doctors.

His involvement at Milmedika clinics gives patients access to cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment methods, including certain orthopedic procedures performed under regional block anesthesia. This approach minimizes invasiveness, speeds up recovery, and reduces hospital stays.

At Milmedika clinics, orthopedic care combines expertise, advanced technology, and a personalized approach, ensuring effective treatment and a swift return to daily activities.
